In one of the latest theories it is believed infrastructure and ecological breakdowns led to the failure of the Khmer Empire. During the 15th century the region suffered severe climatic changes and this impactly vastly its water management system. This resulted with decreased agricultural productivity. Later monsoon flood damaged infrastructure of the city greatly.
